Meat from older sheep (
used for breeding) called
mutton finds it's way into
processed food. Ewes can
live for 15 years but
most are sent to the
slaughter at 4 years old.
People often think that
because we see sheep
wandering the hills in big
open fields that they are
treated very well.....WRONG!
4 million sheep die every
year from cold, hunger,
sickness, pregnancy
complications and injury.
Sheep are the worlds most
exported animal.
They are crammed onto
trucks for shipping & will
endure hot, crammed, dirty
conditions with little
excercise or rest for as
long as several weeks.
Many will not survive the
journey and many more
are injured along the way.
27 % of UK wool
comes from
slaughtered lambs
Museling is a very painful
and distressing method of removing
skin and flesh from the buttocks of
a live sheep. Done with no anethetic
to prevent things like feaces & flies
from getting stuck in the wool of the
sheep. This mehod comes from a breeding programme
to enusre sheep produce more wool .
